Nursing Care

The day didn’t start out as a life-threatening emergency

Thanks to a great nurse, it didn’t end that way, either.

Nurse PostThe pain was so bad, James Zimmerman passed out on the floor. After his wife called 911, things could have grown worse. Judy Post, R.N., was on duty in the Lehigh Valley Hospital ER.

The nurse felt a pulsating abdominal mass. It wasn’t like anything she had ever felt. She knew right away it was life-threatening—a dissecting abdominal aortic aneurysm. Post immediately told the ER doctor that she had found the rare condition, and Zimmerman was soon on his way to surgery to repair his leaky main artery.

As a Magnet hospital, Lehigh Valley Hospital attracts exceptional nurses like Judy Post — nurses who are specially educated and ready to take immediate action for their patients. John Wheary, M.D., the ER doctor, puts it this way: “This nurse saved his life.”

A Magnet for great nurses is a Magnet for patients — and a Magnet for the entire community.
